WELCOME TO THE MIDLAND Country CLUB
Founded in 1927, Midland Country Club features a 40,000 square foot Clubhouse which includes exclusive member dining, locker rooms, a fitness center, a full service golf shop and banquet rooms for all occasions. A separate tennis center has 12 tennis courts, 6 of which are lighted as well as a 3,000 square foot tennis facility housing a social center, tennis shop and day locker rooms. The newly renovated Aquatics Center boasts of a state of the art 143 foot long water park quality water slide and a children’s splash pad play area. The crown jewel of Midland Country Club has always been its 18 hole Ralph Plummer designed golf course. In 2015 we embarked on a two phase golf course restoration project. Our Phase One brand new practice facility includes a driving range and chipping and putting areas. “The Judy” our new 9 hole par 3 short course opened for play in October 2015 along with a state of the art Learning Center complete with three teaching/hitting bays for members and a refreshment area. During 2016 we completely restored our 18 hole golf course with new greens, tees, bunkers and fairways. We are confident that we once again have one of the premier golf courses in the state of Texas.
Midland Country Club celebrates the reopening of its 18 hole golf course
In early 2015, the membership of the Midland Country Club overwhelmingly elected to embark on a two-phase, $8.9 million golf course restoration project. The first phase of construction focused on state-of-the-art golf practice facilities, and an innovative 9-hole short game course named “The Judy” after the Club’s Honorary Member and LPGA Hall of Famer Judy Rankin. A 3-bay Learning Center was also constructed where members could work on their game in a climate controlled environment and obtain lessons utilizing the latest technologically advanced video equipment.
During 2016, the Club once again utilized the amazing architectural talents of Weibring & Wolfard and one of the top golf course construction companies in the world, Landscapes Unlimited, Inc. for the restoration of its original 18-hole, 7,354 yard Ralph Plummer designed course.
Greens were rebuilt to USGA specifications and planted with a specially developed drought tolerant strain of Bentgrass, referred to as 007. Hybrid Bermuda 419 was utilized for tees, fairways, roughs and green surrounds. Cart paths and bunkers were replaced and lakes were built that will serve to supplement the water needs of the updated irrigation system. More than 20 acres of turf were removed in an effort to be more economical and environmentally friendly. More than 100 trees were planted throughout the course and another 20 acres of native West Texas grasses were established along the border of the course.
The project, not only finished on budget, but ahead of its projected completion date (October 2016) under the watchful eye of a construction committee comprised of dedicated Club members and professional staff.
